Tagless Infant Clothing Can Cause Chemical Burns

J0197542 As a parent, I want the best for my children.  I want them to be safe, to be happy, to be secure, to be comfortable.  I want to give them the best and always look out for their safety and well-being.

I want to feel that the people and companies who make the products that I use to dress, bathe, entertain, and feed my babies are looking out for them too.

But I don't.  I don't feel that way at all.

I know we all remember the millions of toys that were recalled last year for lead paint.  I still try to avoid buying toys made by many of the companies whose products were recalled.  I just don't feel as though any proof has been given that we should no longer be concerned.  I don't feel confident that toys are being inspected more frequently, more thoroughly, or more efficiently.

And now, I've learned that the clothes I have been putting on all three of my children since their respective births can cause serious chemical burns.  I am at a loss.

Apparently, the "tagless" tags on infant and children's clothing from multiple companies (Carters, Circo, Baby Gap, Gerber and more) contain phthalates and PVC, and can cause rashes and serious chemical burns.

Please, read this article describing the current situation.  Read the comments and the links.  And pass this information on.  Not enough parents have heard about this yet.

As I looked through some of the comments and linked to the pictures of children with serious burns on their backs, I racked my brain thinking of the number of tagless onesies and shirts sitting in my kids' drawers.  I know there are tons.

Because there has been no recall, and also because right now the issue is being related mostly to Carters apparel, there is little recourse for us as parents.  Carters is taking clothing back at their own stores, but other retailers who sell Carters goods are not. Other companies whose clothing has cause reactions have not yet responded.

As for me, I am getting out some fabric tape and covering all those "tagless" tags on my kids clothing myself.  I am going to make sure I don't purchase more, although many of those brands have been staples in my children's wardrobes.

And I am wondering who I can trust when it comes to producing safe and reliable products for my babies.
