An Unexpected Shopping Afternoon!

-2 I just found myself in a situation I haven’t been in for 5 years, since my son was born.  I had an afternoon to myself, and was basically told, in a nice way by my sick husband- not to come home.

Our Little Man had just left for my parents for a ‘Pajama Party’; yep, we have both sets of grandparents in-town: so we get sleepovers!  Yey… fun for our Little Guy and fun for us!

My Big Guy had to go into work for a little while and I had my list of ‘things-to-do’ done (don’t freak out, we have 1 child, I’m organized, but not SuperMommy), so I grabbed gift cards that I got for Christmas and set out for the mall…

I was incredibly successful at spending my gift cards!
It is amazing what you can do when shopping by yourself AND not looking at your watch all the time thinking, ‘I should really get back home.’

My son was in great hands and having a ball, but I did want to go home and hang out with my husband who should have been on his way home from work…

and he was, and he called me…

Me:  “Hi Honey.”

Big Guy:  “(Groan)… hi.  I’ve got that stomach flu that you two had a few days ago.”

Me:  “I’m on my way home.”

I got home and didn’t see my husband.  I yelled for him…

Big Guy, moaning:  “I’m already up in bed.”

Me:  “Do you need anything?”

Big Guy:  “To rest… why don’t you go back out shopping?”

I wish I had a tape recorder.  Are you kidding me?!  My husband is encouraging me to go back out and shop some more?!

And so I did.  I went to another mall and was on my way home again,

called my husband, and he then encouraged me to go to DSW and do some shoe shopping…

Me:  “Um… okay.”

My husband is the type that likes to be left alone when he’s sick, if you haven’t figured that out my now.

I spent more time at the HUGE DSW by our house than I ever have.  I had so much fun, and even found a cute pair of flats- at 40% off I might add.

I had a completely relaxing afternoon... shopping!  I cannot remember the last time I did that.  And not only was it relaxed, but also guilt-free!  I wasn’t taking time away from my son or my husband!

All-in-all, I totally enjoyed my unexpected afternoon all-to-myself.  On my final way home I started smiling about my fun time, but also about the fact that shopping all afternoon would get boring… if you did it every day, or even every week.

It was nice to concentrate on clothes, and discounted bracelets…

But it sure is nice to be responsible for a little one-

You get the runny noses, and the tantrums, and the diapers, and then the potty training, and toys are underfoot in your home, and you buy flats instead of heels…

But it’s absolutely wonderful to be the arms that your little one wants around them,

and runs into,

and can’t live without.
