Quitting Your Job? In This Economy?

I-quit The strangest thing happened to me the other day.

One of my close friends from work was fired. (That isn't the strange part.)

The strange part is that I was jealous.

What kind of person feels envy when another person gets fired? I guess the kind of person who is miserable with her job.

I resigned last night.

I know it is insane to quit a job in this economy. I cannot sit here and say that I didn't need the money, but I can sit here and say that I have smiled more in the last 12 hours than I have in the entire week before that. I can say that I feel less stressed than I have in months. I can say that I feel like I lost a ten pound knot in my stomach.

I understand that it isn't going to be easy to find a new job right now. It is going to be even more difficult to find work from home. I still have young children at home and since my husband works at least sixty hours a week I need to be flexible and available if anything comes up with the kids. What does a full time working parent do when every Monday is a half day? What do you do when your child gets sick? What do you do on Columbus Day? (The school systems get Monday off but a lot of businesses don't.)

Yikes! I just freaked myself out a little bit. Now I feel scared.

I also feel proud. I feel like I stood up against injustice. I did the right thing for my career. Now I just need a new job.

Is anybody hiring?

Sarah may have quit her job, but she still isn't bored. You can find her other work on Sarah and the Goon Squad, Draft Day Suit, MamaPop, BlogHer, and Loser Moms.
