I Didn't Miss My Kids When I Went to Vegas
A couple of weeks ago, I attend my annual Passion Parties Convention. Of my 8+ plus years in the business, I've only missed it once. I even planned my pregnancy around it. Last year I was 6 weeks pregnant. This year, the baby was 3 months old when I left for Las Vegas.
Not only is a ton of fun, but convention re-energizes my business. We have a lot of great seminars and amazing speakers, including the fabulous old-enough-to-be-my-grandmother sexpert Sue Johanson and the very inspiring Chris Gardner, who wrote about his life in The Pursuit of Happyness.
I was gone for five days and didn't miss my kids a bit.
I don't feel guilty about it all.
I was able to sleep in a huge bed without receiving a visit from a 4 year-old with popsicle toes in the middle of the night.
I didn't have to wake up for night feeding sessions. That's right, I was able to sleep for 5 hours straight. It was heaven! It could have been more sleep, but I was in Vegas. You bet your booty I'm partying!
I was able to have adult conversations with someone other than my husband (though I love him dearly).
I could say damn, fuck, and shit without worrying about my kids overhearing me.
I didn't have to cook food that my daughter wouldn't eat.
You get the drift. I didn't even mind having to pump every 3 hours since I was breastfeeding a newborn.
When I came home, I felt so relaxed and happy. Spending time away from your children can make you a better mother.
In fact, the high from my trip lasted several days. When I was rudely awakened one morning to my daughter saying, "Mommy I have poop all over my legs!" I wasn't even mad. Except I made her wash it off herself.
