Moving across the country with a toddler who is still potty training, a large moving truck, a husband and child with the stomach flu and shortly after one of the largest snowstorms in our country is probably not a good idea. But, like the adventurers we are, my husband and I did it. We were Virginia-bound. Leaving Chicago was not an easy decision, but we knew it was one we had to make. Living alone in the city without any family close by is possible, but not fun. Learning to trust new babysitters, work with your friend's schedules to watch your child and defining date night as an evening with a Comcast On-Demand movie got a little old.
I knew we were no longer in the city anymore when one morning we heard what sounded like a sledgehammer hitting the side of our house. I woke up thinking it was my alarm clock. My husband chimes in and says, "Honey, don't worry, that's just a woodpecker drilling on the house." A woodpecker! Really! Where am I?
